The latest network-wide meeting has been the longest one so far and took four days. The ESRs collaborated on the meeting preparation by suggesting guest speakers. This meeting was exceptionally rich with the invited talks as we had several top researchers in computer graphics coming over, i.e. Miika Aitala from NVIDIA, Bernd Bickel from IST, Wenzel Jakob from EPFL and Ana Serrano (UNIZAR). The usual research updates presented by ESRs were full of new knowledge as ESRs progressed with their work. We reserved enough space for Q&A so each curious question was answered. The second meeting day afternoon featured a panel discussion on “Research vs. Production Rendering”. Each of the four panelist – Bernd Lutz (Maxon Computer GmbH), Adrian Jarabo (Meta), Tamy Boubekeur (Adobe) and Martin Kӧrner (Zeiss) – did a short introductory presentation followed by the questions from the audience. The ESRs learnt about practices in industry.
A substantial part of the meeting – 1,5 days – was intended for horizontal skills training. We invited Dr. Paul Seldon – an experienced lecturer from ICL – to bring up the current topics of Unconscious bias and diversity and Wellbeing for PhD students. We also offered 2 excellent practical lectures focused on Research articles writing and Presentation skills, delivered by the local professors – Adolfo Muñoz and Diego Gutierez. The meeting offered space for networking and technical collaboration discussions. The coffee breaks and social evening strengthened already existing good relations, and also helped to create new contacts with the guests.
